Mt Stirling ready to welcome visitors for 2026 Winter

Alpine Resort Victoria (ARV) is close to completing its pre-season winter preparations at Mt Stirling Alpine Resort, setting the scene for a successful 2026 winter season.

Over recent months, significant work has been undertaken across the resort to prepare tracks and facilities for winter operations. This has included increasing car parking capacity, upgrading the off-grid power system capability, and replacing fireplaces in huts throughout the resort.

The 2026 winter season will officially open on the King’s Birthday weekend, commencing

Friday 6 June. To celebrate the season and the winter solstice, Mt Stirling Alpine Resort will host the annual Stirlstice Festival on Saturday 27 June, marking the start of the school holiday period with a host of winter activities.

“Mt Stirling offers a unique nature-based tourism experience that enables visitors to truly immerse themselves in the alpine environment,” said Alan Arthur, Mt Buller/Mt Stirling General Manager ARV. “We are looking forward to welcoming people to the resort again this winter, supported by a range of services of an appropriate scale to meet the needs of Mt Stirling’s visitor base."

A range of services that enhance the visitor experience will continue to be delivered throughout the season. These include ski patrol services, snow clearing operations, car parking management and guest services, as well as the provision of drinking water and power at Telephone Box Junction.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing tracks will be regularly cleared and groomed, and caretaking of huts and toilets will continue for the benefit of day visitors and campers. Snow play activities, including tobogganing, will be encouraged when snow conditions permit. Visitors can bring their own toboggans or hire one on site.

Stirling Experience, operated by a third-party provider, will continue to deliver key visitor services, including the Stirling Café, ski hire, ski school and shuttle services to the snow line. The Alpine Camp, a bookable glamping experience, will also continue to operate throughout the season.

A new year-round camping fee will apply from 1 June 2026 to support the ongoing maintenance of facilities, cleaning services and firewood supply to camping sites within the resort.

The camping fee aligns with charges applied across Victoria’s mid-category national parks and will be available for purchase via the Mt Stirling website or when entering the resort during the declared snow season.

  • Cost: $17.30 per night
  • Applies to: Per tent or hut booking, including up to six people

Exempt: Visitors booked through approved commercial operators, including guests staying at The Alpine Camp, do not need to pay a separate camping fee.

“This fee will assist in off-setting some of the key visitor services that are made available in the resort, contributing to a sustainable future for Mt Stirling,” said Arthur.
