Chief of the Defence Force welcomes new trainee officers to ADFA

More than 300 future Australian Defence Force (ADF) leaders have been formally welcomed to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) at the annual Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Parade held in Canberra, on 20 February, 2021. The latest group of Royal Australian Navy midshipmen, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force officer cadets were put through their paces on the ADFA Parade Ground, in front of the reviewing officer, the Chief of Defence Force, General Angus Campbell AO, DSC.

The incoming 2023 class of Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) trainee officers has been welcomed to the Academy today at the annual Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Parade.

The CDF Parade marks the culmination of the initial military training period for the 353 first year trainee officers and their acceptance as members of the corps of Navy midshipmen and Army and Air Force officer cadets at ADFA.

Angus Campbell AO, DSC congratulated ADFA’s newest trainee officers on completing their initial military period.

“Over the past five weeks, the trainee officers have been introduced to life in the Australian Defence Force, which has included activities such as leadership and ethics education, weapons handling, physical training, and drill,” General Campbell said.

“These past five weeks are the beginning of a lifelong professional learning journey for these young men and women.

“Commencing on Monday, the new trainee officers will also start their academic studies at the University of New South Wales Canberra, co-located with ADFA, alongside their ongoing military training.

“This unique combination of university education and military training prepares ADFA trainee officers intellectually, ethically and physically for their future roles as leaders in the Australian Defence Force.

“ADFA is just the first step in a fantastic career in the Australian Defence Force for this year’s incoming class of trainee officers, and I will be following the progress of the trainee officers with interest.”
