Robbie McKinlay announced as the Centre of Excellence Head Coach.

Basketball Australia is pleased to announce respected elite youth development coach Robbie McKinlay has been appointed as Head Coach of the BA Centre of Excellence Men’s Program, based at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
 
Currently working with the NBA Global

Academy program at the AIS, McKinlay will transition to the lead role with the Centre of Excellence, taking the reins from outgoing head coach Adam Caporn, who has accepted a role as Head Coach of the Long Island Nets in the NBA G-League.
 
A former collegiate stand-out at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, McKinlay cut his coaching teeth under legendary coach Dip Metress before returning to Australia to work in various youth development roles and a year as an assistant coach with the Sydney Kings in the NBL.
 
He linked with the NBA Global Academy as an assistant coach in 2017 and has worked with elite prospects from Australia and abroad, including 2021 NBA number six draftee Josh Giddey and NBA G-League Ignite signee Dyson Daniels.
 
McKinlay has also served as an assistant coach with the Australian Under 19 Men’s team for the last two World Cup campaigns and comes to role with a Master Degree in Education from Augusta University.
 
In announcing the appointment, Basketball Australia Executive General Manager of High Performance Jan Stirling said the Centre of Excellence continues to play an integral role in the development of the next generation of Boomers and Opals.
 
“We are thrilled to have Robbie step into the role at the Centre of Excellence and continue the excellent work Adam Caporn has done in the program for the last seven years,” Stirling said.
 
“The Centre of Excellence played a key role in developing our current crop of Boomers and we know Robbie will continue to work towards sustained podium success for our green and gold teams moving forward.”
 
McKinlay said he was excited and proud to be provided with the opportunity to lead the prestigious program.
 
“The COE and AIS basketball has a strong international reputation and I’m certainly humbled to have the opportunity to continue this legacy,” McKinlay said.
 
“The Olympic success of the Boomers reminds us all of the proud tradition of Australian basketball and the COE is a big part of that, we will continue to work every day to produce the next crop of Boomers.”
