Launch of Tasmanian Health Senate

A new Tasmanian Health Senate will be launched to bring together health expertise to provide advice on issues of statewide and strategic importance to the health system.

Delivering on a key commitment made through the Our Healthcare Future reforms, the Tasmanian Liberal Government will establish a statewide Clinical Senate which will be co-designed with key stakeholders.

Health Senates across Australia and overseas have been found to make a positive impact on

healthcare reform and clinical engagement by strengthening the clinical and consumer voice in health planning.

The Tasmanian Health Senate will provide clinical leadership and advice on system-wide planning and delivery of health services to the Tasmanian community.

This group will bring together clinicians, carers, consumers, and the community, to debate statewide and system-wide health matters, which will inform quality healthcare planning and delivery for Tasmanians.

The release today of the Exposure Draft of the Terms of Reference and Operational Framework brings us one step closer to establishing the Senate.

These documents have been co-designed through consultation with interested stakeholders with health knowledge and expertise, and lived experience.

The Tasmanian community is invited to provide comments and feedback on these exposure drafts. Submissions can be made to health.senate@health.tas.gov.au until 17 June 2022.

I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who has contributed to date.

This feedback will guide the final Terms of Reference and Operational Framework.

The next step will be to establish the Tasmanian Health Senate through an expression of interest process with the inaugural meeting planned for later this year.
