Scouts Hall Delivered For Growing Kalkallo Community

Australia - Scouts in Kalkallo now have a purpose-built hall thanks to the Allan Labor Government – giving young people in Melbourne’s north a dedicated space to connect, develop skills and build resilience.

Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman today officially opened the new Scout Hall at Gilgai Plains Primary School in the heart of the Kalkallo community, backed by a $600,000 investment from the Labor Government.

The hall will act as a hub for local Scouts and Girl Guides, offering a safe and

accessible space for meetings, leadership programs, social connection and outdoor activities.

Located adjacent to the Recreation Reserve, the facility provides convenient access to local community and sporting amenities, strengthening ties between Scouts and the broader Kalkallo community.

The hall has the capacity to host up to five Scout groups, supporting youth aged five to 25 years to engage in activities that build teamwork, leadership and confidence.

More than $940,000 was allocated in 2022 to develop and upgrade a further six Scout halls in South Frankston, Bannockburn, Deer Park, Bundoora, Sandown and Eltham.

Scouts Victoria remains one of the state’s largest youth organisations, with more than 20,000 young members and 5,000 adult volunteers.

Over the past decade, youth participation has increased by more than 30 per cent – demonstrating Scouts Victoria’s focus on the personal development and resilience of young people.

The Labor Government is delivering an additional $820,000 through the Victorian Budget 2025/26 to support the future development or refurbishment of three Scout Halls and two community space infrastructure projects.
