The Albanese Labor Government is providing new funding opportunities for Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) through Strategic Projects grants, to help support First Nations economic development.
PBCs can apply for funding to help unlock the economic potential of Native Title land for
the benefit of Native Title holders and the communities they represent, with $30 million available until 30 June 2029.The grants will support PBCs to deliver strategic and economic development activities, work with government and industry, undertake planning and establish partnerships and business enterprises that generate long-term economic opportunities.
PBCs can apply for funding over a period of up to three years, with grants anticipated to range between $50,000 - $750,000.
The grant opportunity is part of the Albanese Government’s new PBC Support Program which is investing $200 million to drive economic empowerment opportunities for Native Title holders by strengthening the capability, capacity and sustainability of PBCs across Australia.
The new Support Program will also provide a one-off establishment payment for newly registered PBCs and increased operational funding to support PBCs to meet their legal responsibilities and engage effectively with government and industry.
As Native Title has now been recognised over 46.7 per cent of Australia’s land mass, PBCs play an essential role in creating opportunities for First Nations communities, particularly in remote areas.
