Across the nation, the Australian Olympic Committee is launching the first ever Green & Gold Day on the eve of super Saturday of the Tokyo Olympic Games. It’s a day designed to unite our nation behind our sporting colours and celebrate together.
Green and Gold Day is for everyone. The
athletes, the fans, the businesses, the schools, our political leaders, the young, the old and everything in between. If you’re an Aussie, it’s for you! This day is about painting the country green and gold and being proud of Australia’s sporting achievements.
The AOC wants the nation to give one united shout out to the Team in Tokyo to help them prepare for one of the biggest days of the Games.
AOC CEO Matt Carroll spoke about the ability of sport to draw people closer, encourage inclusiveness across the community and how the green and gold is truly something that can unite us all.
““We can all stand behind and be proud of the Green and Gold. Our national sporting colours, bind us as a nation and cross boundaries like nothing else we have.”
“Sporting achievement at any level brings communities together. On Green and Gold Day we can come together as one community to celebrate our Australian sporting achievements, the athletes amazing stories of commitment and resilience and hasn’t that been on display in Tokyo these past days.”
“We are all proud of the Olympic Team’s achievements so far in Tokyo, not just medals but of athletes who have striven but, not quite made it, they too are to be celebrated in the Aussie way of, “have a go”.
Rio Olympian and Gold Medallist (Rugby Sevens) Alicia Quirk was excited about Green and Gold Day and keen to support the team from one of the many Olympics Live Presented be Westpac sites around the nation.
“I can’t wait to don the Green and Gold this Friday, it’s a day to get behind our sporting colours and celebrate the achievements of the Australian Team. Go you Aussies!”
“During these Games there’s so many ways we get around the Team, I’m heading down to Olympics Live presented by Westpac in South Bank, but you can also connect with the Team online with Olympics Live in your Lounge Room in all your green and gold glory!”
