Tenders called for Public Diagnostic Breast Care Centre in Hobart

An important milestone has been reached in the delivery of a new $15 million Public Diagnostic Breast Care Centre in Hobart.

Tenders have been invited for the fit-out of the new facility, which will be located at Level 6 of the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Liverpool Street Clinics.

Government is delivering on its commitment to establish the vital service, which will accept patient referrals from GPs, improving access to diagnostic breast imaging for Tasmanians.

“This Centre is going to make a significant difference to the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians, increasing access to GP-referred diagnostic breast imaging that is currently only available in the private sector,” Minister Petrusma said.

“It’ll increase capacity, reduce wait times and ease the financial impact on Tasmanians requiring these services.

“It’s intended to be a ‘one-stop shop’ providing a multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment – involving and supporting patients in decisions about their care.

“It will also facilitate expanded service delivery for related services, including BreastScreen Tasmania, the Tasmanian Bowel Cancer Prevention Program, and the Cervical Cancer Prevention Program.

“We anticipate works to fit-out the new Centre will get underway in mid-2025 with the service expected to be seeing clients in the new facility by the end of 2025.

“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are pulling out all the stops to build a better health system.”
