For 25 years Insiders has been Australia's destination for informed political discussion, analysis and debate. On Sunday 9 August the program marks the milestone with a special anniversary edition.
Founding host Barrie Cassidy returns to the Insiders couch for the first time since his
retirement in 2019. With host David Speers, Barrie will join The Australian Editor-at-Large Paul Kelly and political journalist Karen Middleton to reflect on how Australian politics, political reporting and the national conversation have evolved since Insiders first aired in July 2001.From who we elect, to how we elect them, politics has changed dramatically in 25 years. The collapse of the two-party system, the breakdown of trust in democracy and institutions and an explosion of technology and political media disruptors have left our political system facing challenges unimaginable a generation ago.
The anniversary edition will bring two-and-a-half decades of experience and analysis to understanding the chaos and challenges of Australian politics in 2026 – and feature some of the program's many memorable moments from over the years.
