Motor racing fans are being urged to stick to the speed limit and drive to the conditions, with 100,000 race goers from across the state expected to descend on Mount Panorama for the Repco Bathurst 1000.

for Bathurst Paul Toole said it was exciting to have full crowds back at Bathurst this year, but urged motorists to drive safely.“About 100,000 race fans are expected to make their way over the mountains for the four-day event and many of them won’t have travelled long distances for many months due to lockdown,” Mr Toole said.
“That’s why it’s important for everyone to plan their trip, have regular breaks, drive to the conditions and leave excessive speeds to the professionals on the track.
“The Bathurst 1000 is one of the State’s first major events since COVID restrictions were eased and we want to make sure everyone gets to and from the mountain safely.”
Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said NSW Police would be conducting a high-visibility operation this weekend to ensure race enthusiasts enjoy the event safely.
“Officers and specialist Police including Public Order and Riot Squad and the Mounted Unit will be out in force to focus on road safety and crowd behaviour,” he said.
“As thousands decent on Bathurst for the return of this weekend’s race, we want to see all race-goers enjoy the family event and make it home safe.”
The Repco Bathurst 1000 was postponed from its traditional October date due to lockdown.
The multi-day event will be held from today until December 5 at Mount Panorama Circuit.
