I am pleased to announce Ms Sarah Kay as the next Solicitor-General for Tasmania.
Ms Kay brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, with 25 years’ experience as a legal practitioner. She also happens to be Tasmania’s first female Solicitor-General since the office was established in 1825.
She has held the position of Assistant Solicitor-General since October 2017, providing high level advice to Government and the Crown on a broad range of complex legal and constitutional matters.
Ms Kay’s appointment follows a national search which invited expressions of interest from suitably qualified legal practitioners.
I personally congratulate Ms Kay on her appointment and look forward to working with her on a range of matters into the future.
I would also like to thank the outgoing Solicitor-General, Michael O’Farrell SC, for his substantial service to our State over the last seven years, and wish him well for the future when he officially departs the role on 24 December 2021.
