Point Grey Marina plan jettisoned in wake of amendment

• Planning Minister approves amendment to local planning scheme to stop proposed Point Grey Marina
• Follows recommendation made by Western Australian Planning Commission
• Prevents excavation of marina and navigation channel in Peel-Harvey Estuary
• Provides certainty for developers and local community on future of Point Grey 

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has approved an amendment to the local planning scheme to stop a controversial marina development at Point Grey, on the Peel-Harvey Estuary, from proceeding.

 

The Minister's decision follows the recommendation made by

the Western Australian Planning Commission.

 

The amendment removes potential for the development of a marina at Point Grey, responding to concerns about the suitability of the site in the context of potential long-term environmental impacts, and uncertainty about ongoing maintenance and upkeep.

 

The move to embed this change in the local planning scheme received overwhelming support from the local community and was unopposed by developers.
