Tasmania’s economy continues to surge as the latest ABS export statistics reveal a record export figure of $4.225 for the 12-months to October 2021.
This is 18.6 per cent higher than the previous year and marks a run of three consecutive months when the annual export figures have exceeded the $4 billion mark.
This highlights that Tasmania has more of what the world wants!
These strong results follow data released yesterday showing that Tasmania has
the fastest growing economy in the nation, with State Final Demand growing 4.2 per cent in the September 2021 quarter.Mining and minerals are traditionally the strongest sectors, contributing about 60 per cent of our exports and accounting for about 5000 jobs, many in regional areas.
Exporters also received a further boost this week with the resumption of the Cathay Pacific flights from Hobart to Hong Kong to get our premium fresh produce into the Asian market.
Tasmania’s sustainable primary industries and resources sector has been a cornerstone of the Tasmanian economy during the past two years and a wet winter and spring has the agriculture sector in prime condition for a big season.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of our exporters and looks forward to increasing trade opportunities in the future.
