Grants now available for gender equity projects

Organisations and individuals are now able to apply for grants worth up to $5000 for projects that support gender equity.

This second round of grants is part of an annual commitment by the Territory Labor Government’s Office of Gender Equity and Diversity to increase gender equality across the NT.

Projects to be considered for funding must address gender inequities in the NT in at least

two of the following areas:

  • education, employment and economic security;
  • safety;
  • health and wellbeing;
  • participation and representation in leadership and decision making; and
  • respect and empowerment.

The OGED also has a sponsorship program that allocates funds to support annual events relevant to gender equality and gender diversity in the NT, such as Men’s Health Week, International Women’s Day marches, Darwin Pride and the Katherine Pride Roadshow.

Successful recipients funded through the Gender Equity and Diversity General Grants in 2021 include:

  • Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia for Reclaim the Night activities in Alice Springs;
  • Wagait Shire Council for International Men’s Day activities in November 2021;
  • FABalice Festival for a Sexuality and Diversity Community Training Program as part of the festival for 2022;
  • Menzies School of Health Research for its Youth Health Summit; and
  • the Darwin Sailing Club’s NT Women’s Regatta 2021.

 “These grants aim to bridge the gaps in gender equality and represent the Territory Labor Government’s commitment to a fairer and more equal Northern Territory.

“We are building communities that are safe and inclusive for all Territorians and these grants support projects and events that not only celebrate gender diversity but advance equality across the NT.”
