15 March 2021: The University of Canberra’s Celebration of Belonging Week kicks off today, with a string of events scheduled to celebrate the community’s diversity, while continuing to promote inclusion and belonging on campus.
In line with Harmony Week 2021 (15–19
March), the University will celebrate at the Bruce campus starting with a Market Day on the UC Concourse from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, 16 March. Come along to experience the diversity of the cultural, social and academic clubs of the University community.University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Paddy Nixon encouraged staff and students to join him in celebrating diversity, inclusion and belonging at the University.
“Everyone in the UC community has their part to play in creating a culture of inclusion and belonging, and these events are a great way to get involved and do just that,” he said.
“I’m especially excited for the St Patrick’s Day breakfast on Wednesday featuring food and some Irish dancing. I’m looking forward to sharing my culture with the University community so tar linn (come along).”
To join the Vice-Chancellor for the free St Patrick’s breakfast in the Refectory from 8.30am on Wednesday 17 March, registration is required.
To conclude the Celebration of Belonging Week, the University will host a Circle of Reflection on the Concourse 3.30pm on Thursday, 18 March.
The UC Circle of Reflection acknowledges the unprecedented events of 2019/2020 in Australia and globally, as well as the impact and effects it has had on our students and staff.
It hopes to bring the University community together to recognise its commitment in securing a sense of belonging for everyone.
The UC Ally network will also be holding a movie night in celebration of Harmony Week, highlighting queer culture in a movie selected by a group survey.
The virtual event will be held on Thursday 18 March from 6pm, with a movie streamed on SBS on Demand. More details can be found on the UC Ally Network webpage.
