The Tasmanian Government recognises the valuable contribution of Tasmania’s service men and women and is committed to supporting the serving and ex-service community in Tasmania.
Applications for Round Two of the 2020-21Teddy Sheean VC Memorial Grants are currently open and today I was proud to see how this initiative is already benefiting Tasmanians, visiting the George Town RSL Club which used the $3,000 it was provided in Round One of the Grants Program to purchase a defibrillator.
The Grants Program was established as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice made by Tasmanian sailor Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean VC, who gave his life for his country and fellow shipmates during a battle in 1942 off the coast of East Timor.
The Grants Program also honours all of the Tasmanians who selflessly gave their lives for others in the defence of this country.
A total of $50,000 is available under Round Two of the Program, which will provide grants of up to $10,000 for minor capital works; $5,000 for equipment purchases for RSL cubs, sub-branch and ex-service organisations; and up to $5,000 towards the repair and maintenance of war memorials, and the construction of new memorials.
The Program will also provide grants of up to $5,000 to eligible organisations for welfare initiatives to support the health and well-being of veterans.
The Grants Program Guidelines and Application Form is available from Communities Tasmania’s website www.communities.tas.gov.au/csr.
Applications close on 31 March 2021 so I encourage anyone who is eligible to apply.
