SCHOOLS and community groups around the nation will soon start receiving educational materials and creative resources to help commemorate Anzac Day.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said learning about our service personnel and the sacrifices they have made was an important part of commemoration, and the Anzac Day mail-out was one way the government was helping Australians learn more.
“The Anzac Day mail-out is an important resource delivered
each year by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) for schools as they teach our next generation about Australia’s military history,” Mr Chester said.“This mail-out includes resources to commemorate 100 years of the Royal Australian Air Force, which we will mark on 31 March this year, as well as the war in the Pacific and the end of the Second World War.”
More than 17,000 recipients around the nation will receive posters, educational materials including flyers and the book Shifting Tides: Australia and the Pacific in the Second World War.
“For more than a century Australians have come together on Anzac Day — whether it is in-person at an event, or a personal moment of solemn reflection — to recognise and honour all those who have served our nation and commemorate the more than 102,000 Australians who have died in service of our nation,” Mr Chester said.
“I encourage, all schools and teachers to integrate these educational tools into their lesson plans and help the next generation understand the importance of Anzac Day.”
All resources are free and available to download on the Anzac Portal (anzacportal.dva.gov.au).
